The snow pea is a legume, more specifically a variety of pea eaten whole in its pod while still unripe. The Snow Pea is flat with very small peas inside. The whole snow pea is edible although the tough "strings" along the edges are usually removed before eating. It is mildly flavored and can be served raw or cooked.
